New Zealand Flag Debate

We have have been learning about the big New Zealand flag debate we wrote an information report about it. Here is mine

NZ Flag Debate

I think we should not change the New Zealand flag. It is a very big discussion some people want to change it and some don’t.

People want to change the flag because it is similar to the Australian flag.

People get confused for an example at the Commonwealth Games Australia came 1st and New Zealand came second and third. People would get confused because people will think that New Zealand came 1st and Australia came second and third. Some  people will think that we are a part of the UK because we have the Union Jack in the top left of our flag. People think that it does not show enough Maori and other ethnic cultures.

Some people don’t want to change the flag because it will cost to much money. Just to change the flag it cost about $26 Million. That money can be used for the kids and adults that need help like the homeless. Or we can donate some for the Christchurch rebuild or we could give some to charity. People who want to change the flag want more Maori and Pacific cultures represented on it, but New Zealand today is made of many different cultures. Another reason we shouldn't change the flag because the flag represents the soldiers that fought in WW1 and WW2.

John Key wants to change the flag because he want to go down in history for the first prime minister to change the flag.

To sum up, some people want to change the flag but I think we shouldn't change the flag because I like what it represents now.
